I want to use two monitors but my GPU only has 1 HDMI port.

Exactly, or you could plug your other monitor in with HDMI and use the adapter on your current monitor...but then it may no longer be your current monitor and thus would be your other...

see what ports the new monitor has as maybe it might have the other 3 ports your video card has. my 2 24" monitors has 3 ports each: vga, dvi & hdmi as does my video card.
