I tried to look this up and some people offer steps through CMD some people suggest they buy software.. I can see that the drive is being read on disk management but beyond that I do not know how to access the files as it says "This Harddrive has to be Formatted" when plugged in

Will doing things like chkdsk wipe the drive? I have 2.7TB in files at risk

I really have no clue what that is or how to do that. Isnt there just a way I can fix through CMD? I dont seem to be the only person with this problem

It isn't hard to do what I suggested.

- Download the program
- Choose your drive from the home page when the program opens
- Expand the SMART section
- Post a picture of the SMART table, showing the Status column at the end.

We can't just click our fingers and make it work. You have to contribute to us helping you.

Hmm that is worrying that the SMART is not supported, as it should be. This may mean that the drive has died.

There are some WD reps floating around who might see this thread, if they don't reply I'd suggest contacting WD, seeing a local data recovery professional or consider the data lost.
