The title pretty much sums up what I'm asking. The only super-competitive game I play is CSGO, and spend most of my time playing non-competitive games or watching television/movies. Would you recommend I go for a 1440p monitor or a 144hz 1080p monitor. My system is perfectly capable at running games on both choices, so should I get G-Sync? I do not plan to buy the monitor for a few months, but I am looking for suggestions now since I've never really researched buying a monitor before.

Solution
Your call if you choose a 1080p Gsync / freesync or a 1440p IPS. A 1440p moitor will serve you better in everything but gaming, where G-SYnc / Freesync makes a significant difference.
I will give you some good monitors form each category though.

North Americans can buy 27" 2560x1440 Korean monitors from IPS LED Monitors who offer a 14 day Return Policy.

From these, choose the Yamakashi Catleap. The Yamakashi Catleap uses an 8 Bit LG S-IPS panel and only works with PC's. It can be overclocked up to 120hz.

Otherwise, see the Crossover 2795QHD. The Crossover 2795 does not use LED PWM Dimming, can be overclocked and has excellent colour presets, high contrast and fast pixel response times. Mind...

If you can take advantage of Freesync, look no further than Asus MG279Q. The Asus MG279Q uses a 27" 2560x1440 resolution 8 Bit AUO AHVA panel, a nearly grain free matte coating, excellent colour presets when the Racing mode is selected, a high quality matte grey bezel which vastly increases the perceived black depth, fast pixel response times and a 144hz refresh rate.

If not and you do not want a Korean monitor, look at the LG 27MB85R-B. It has excellent colour presets, a matte grey bezel, low input lag and fast pixel response times.

Finally, if you are more interested for a G-Sync monitor, your only good option is AOC G2460PG. The AOC G2460PG has better colour presets than the XL2420G and is cheaper.

Bear in mind that you can combine best of both worlds (G-Sync and IPS 1440p) with Acer XB270HU, if you cannot take advantage of Freesync. You need to raise your budget for it though.

Thanks! I think I will go with one of the Catleap monitors or the Acer XB270HU if there is a decent sale in these next few months.
