Using a circa 2003 Rear Projection HDTV as a gaming computer monitor?

Hey guys,

I'm just trying to maximise my screen size here, and am probably going to buy a used screen. I see a lot of people selling Rear Projection HDTVs, of up to 65". I have a few questions:

■ I understand that these screens burn in if a static display is projected onto them. Does that make it a complete no-go for use as a monitor?
■ Even though it is 1080p, will it be very hard to resolve text? Assuming the bulb is pristine and there are no convergence issues.
■ Will a component connection at 1080p be any worse than the standard HDMI we have nowdays?

Your responses here will help me decide whether or not to even bother looking at these as potentials for a large gaming screen. I'm finding 60" Rear projections for about $50-70, whereas the largest LCD/Plasma I can get for around $100 is 32".

Thanks!

You'd need a convertor first to get to component from hdmi.

All in all, they do look bad, colors go, bulbs go. You get get a 40-50" flat screen brand new with hdmi for usually a couple hundred nowadays. I'd do that instead. Save your money or get the 32" LCD.
