I'm helping a friend to build a sub-$1000 computer used primarily for gaming. I just wanted to get some opinions on what people think and maybe some suggestions as to what could be changed or improved. I'm sure there's a better list out there, but this is what we have so far.

Thanks for the feedback!

Help him overclock the i5 to atleast 4.5ghz easy and msi gaming cards are reliable and nice overclockers so help him get a stable overclock. If yoy could somehow get a 8gig ram and perhaps get a non unlocked i5 a 970 would be great but honistley the 4690k overclock is magnificent and that build should do your friend fine especially if he is on 1080p. 1440p i would shoot for the 970 or r9 390

I definitely will change it to the 970, although I'm thinking of keeping the 4690K because it has great overclocking. Maybe instead I'll change the 16Gbs of RAM to 8Gb, because another 8Gbs could always be added.
