HTPC: AMD Dual Graphics or discrete GPU?

I currently have an A8-7600 APU and I'm looking to upgrade my HTPC with a low profile graphics card. Anyone know how the A8-7600 paired with a R7 240 2GB DDR3 would compare to the GTX 750TI 2GB DDR5?

A 750 Ti would be faster than your crossfire setup.

So you've got 2 options: Pay more, get a 750 Ti, enjoy better performance (though unnecessary for a HTPC IMO)
Pay a lot less, get a 240 or 250 and get better performance either way, though substantially under the 750 Ti. (still unnecessary for a HTPC)

Thanks for the response. So, I was building the PC for home theatre and light gaming (as I have never really gamed since PS2, Xbox gen). But now I am getting hooked and am increasing my Steam library. The games I currently play with this set up are Borderlands 1&2, 1 is definately playable ~35 fps 1080p medium (DoF off), 2 was not as smooth but still playable. Tomb Raider is Ok ~30fps low 1080p, still a beautiful game. Others: Sonic ASRT, Lego Clone Wars, Portals 1&2, Dirt Showdown all playable with my set up.
From what I know dual graphics will have no effect on games with DX9, just DX11+. So BL1 & BL2 will remain the same in dual graphics.
I'm in Canada and right now I can get the R7 240 for ~$85 and the GTX 750Ti for ~$155. Looking up separate benchmarks looks like the 750ti is far superior (ex. battlefield 4: med 1080p 750ti: 75fps, amd dual: 40fps)

So, I think for now I will wait until I am all caught up playing the older games with my current set up, and once I get to the newer releases I will see what I will need to play the games I am interested in. And for strictly a HTPC running as XBMC and a plex server the A8-7600 is perfect (if not overkill, A6 is probably best for cost).

Crossfireing a GPU with the APU sucks.
I spent HOURS trying to get this to work a few years ago. When I finally got it, it was slower than the GPU by itself. Most of the time the GPU will slow down to match the APU, and using it as an APU will slow the CPU. Just get GTX 960.

I need a low profile card for my case and I haven't seen any GTX 960 cards in low profile. That is why I am debating between the 750ti and the r7 240.

just wanted to say that Crossfire can be beneficial in some games, But very few. In my opinion a Discrete GPU would be a better option. It will be optimized in nearly every game or possibly every game. Having crossfire in a game that doesn't support crossfire could cause screen tearing and stutters even if for example you are playing in a game reaching 60 Frames per second. It will still be unpleasant. This is because the graphics card in crossfire takes turns in reading frames. one of the graphics card might read the frames faster and the other slower. in this case your Integrated GPU is slower, I think :) This then causes the faster card to wait for the slower one, rather than doing nothing the faster card reads the same frame twice. causing an incomplete image. You can solve this by applying V sync to try and match the frame rate to the refresh rate, But will cause lag and stutters. So just go with the discrete graphics card. GTX 750Ti is good enough in 1080 p to play nearly everything in high settings. That's all buddy, have a nice day! I'm sick today :(

Frame tearing :

The screen tearing is horizontal, This is because graphic cards read frames that way.

Question: Low profile as in cooled passively?

Low profile as in half height card.

Thanks for the info Sensei. Right now I am leaning towards a stand alone discreet GPU and the best low profile card looks to be the 750ti. I am pleasantly surprised with the how well the A8-7600 iGPU works as it can top 30fps at 1080p in the games I am currently playing (borderlands, tomb raider, dirt... all of which are 'fine' to play at 30fps), but for the current gen of games I think I will need some more power.

That is because I have tried using dual graphics in my A10 5800K (4.9 Ghz OC) APU with a Radeon HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 and the results were not as expected. With the Radeon HD 6670 alone, the Frames per second were much higher than crossfiring it with the APU. Just go with the GTX 750Ti. much more worth it. This card can play the most demanding games, like Witcher 3 in ultra settings. and still maintain of around 30 FPS Range. cheers m8!

APUs are awesome considering that they are integrated and can play those games

What? I'm not lying. It can play witcher 3 on ultra settings at around 30FPS. What I mean by around is that it can be lower or higher than 30FPS. I said that because other components might affect performance too. My friend has this card the EVGA brand, I think it is the superclocked version and it can run witcher 3 on ultra settings at an average of 27-31FPS 1080p, when settings are set to Medium-High it could run 45-56FPS 1080p. This is because his CPU is an intel i5 3570K which is a good CPU and has (2x4) 8GB RAM. I still don't know though how it would run in an AMD A8-7600. But it is clear that the AMD A8 7600 is weaker in performance when compared to the intel i5 3570K. I'm just stating things from past experiences.
