Alternatives to the Hyper 212+/Evo for budget cooling

As the old topic got slightly...damaged...I've decided to save the mods the hassle of rewriting the whole thing and start a new topic without a hidden OP and messed up quoting etc. I'll leave this OP for the mods to edit to their preferences.

Currently these are cheaper (right at this moment in time) than either the 212+ or Evo, and all perform about the same (ie: good for overclocking quad cores or mild overclock on six core):

Nothing against the 212+ or EVO. They are great coolers for the $25-$30, but most often they are priced much higher (due to demand). Also some people just might want to try something different.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

I have no problem with paying money for good hardware, of course those supersmart ppl constructing and making cpu's must be compensated. But shelling out an equal amount as I spent on a high Tech Product for a hunk of metal with a fan on it really makes me ....a bit frustrated.

You don't need an aftermarket cooler though. Just use the stock one.

If you're ever thinking of playing high end games or running software that makes your computer work, having an aftermarket cooler is definately necessary. ( i was running stock cooler on AMD 6300 when playing league of legends and it would constantly overheat)

[/quotemsg]i think that has to do with your system and mobo combo..my buddy had the same chip and never had stock issue..but he had a decent mobo and a good case for vent too. but yeah i can see where it can be an issue with them stock cpu coolers. they are bare minimum.

A hyper 412s is a good one. You can take 1 fan what comes with it, and take a other one later. so you can later do a push pull

Zalman 9900 MAX runs cooler than the 212 and will clear tall ram.
it also looks cool. 4690k idles 30c, web browsing 30c-40c+

Will chip in my 2c. The Arctic i30 imho is basically only useful for 80w TDP and below chips. Having used it on a Core 2 Quad Q6600, a 3930k for a short while whilst waiting for an RMA and a G3258 Anniversary, it really only could cool the Anniversary without issue, and has serious problems keeping the 3930k@stock idling below 60C (3930k Tcase is only 67C and 4 loaded cores took it into mid-70s).

3930k TDP is 130w, and OC Q6600 is a little more (but it can run a lot hotter) so that should give you a good idea of the OC performance of the fan. Most quads today i can just about handle OC

True Spirit Power 140. It's more expensive but it's the best bang for the buck for hotter chips if you're not willing to go all in and get a Noctua 15.

Cryorig H7 is pretty good, and its a little bit more better than the 212, and its smaller, so it is compatible with more cases.
