Today my new LG Electronics UM65 34UM65 34-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor came in. I hooked it up and didn't have the right HDMI so I just used the DVI cables I had from my previous monitor for now. When I started the monitor it warned me that the resolution needs to be changed to 2560x1080 60HZ. I went to my screen resolution setting and it was maxed out 1920x1080. I'm looking to change it to the recommend 2560x1080 because at the current settings I can tell its stretched and blurry. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga running windows 8. Here are some specs on it:
Celeron N2940 / 1.83 GHz
Chrome OS
4 GB RAM
16 GB SSD
11.6" touchscreen 1366 x 768 ( HD )
Intel HD Graphics
802.11ac

Not sure if any of that helps. Wondering if there's a special setting I have to change or if when I get that HDMI cable hooked up if it will look better and if I will be able to select the 2560x1080 setting then.

Is your DVI cable single link or dual link? Single link only supports up to 1920x1200 @60 which is less than 2560x1080 @60; a DVI dual link cable is required. If you do get an HDMI cable then make sure it's at least version 1.4 or higher to support the high resolution.

The Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail) in your processor should handle two HDMI 1.4 (1920 x 1080) or DisplayPort 1.2 (2560 x 1600) as mentioned on notebookcheck.net. Not exactly sure what the highest resolution it can display on one HDMI port.

Also, since your monitor is an ultra widescreen then you might want to see if there are drivers for it.

I figured the laptop would be a big part of the issue.... Is there a way to get around that?

It is the computer my work provides. I do video editing and needed a monitor that was more suited for video editing rather than the small laptop screen or a Dell monitor that has awful color accuracy.
