I wanted a second opinion on my new build i'm wanting to put together. I have a budget of $1000 minimum and about $1300-1400 max. this is the the build i have so far, but if you could tell me if i could do better or anything like that, id very much appreciate it. I don't plan on overclocking.

looks pretty darn good to me as long as you do not plan on gaming. only suggestions id have is to upgrade to the samsung 850 PRO 256 or even 512. they use much faster memory than the EVO line and will overall, be a better SSD. if you do not plan on overclocking getting the non k i7 will be more beneficial for the money, aswell as using the stock cooler instead of a liquid cooler, as it will not be necessary without overclocks.

I actually do plan on gaming. I have a XFX R9 290x at home ready to install. Should that make it gaming ready?

pretty much covers that. if you already have a 290x, consider dropping down to the 4790 (not k) going with a h97 board as the z97 only benefits from overclocking ability. with the money saved there pick up a higher end 850w psu and another 290x for extreme gaming for less than your budget.

EDIT: threw together a sample build on pcpartpicker

Thanks man, i really appreciate the help.

CPU - The Xeon E3-1231 V3 is the better option for the H97 platform. Cheaper and i7 performance with hyperthreading enabled.
MEM - The H97 platform is limited to DDR3-1600.
SSD - The 850 Pro is a beast, but so is the 850 Evo at that size.
HD - No need for a performance drive when you have an SSD in the mix handling the majority of your workload.
CASE - You aren't overclocking or generating a lot of heat. The 500r doesn't offer much for you over the cheaper 300r.
PSU - Oversized. 650w is plenty for an R9 290x with some overclocking.
