Hello Everyone,

So as the title says, im upgrading my old rig to make a second Gaming PC. I have a budget of 400$.
The parts that i need to upgrade are,
-Mobo
-Proccessor
-GPU
-RAM

The parts im using from my old rig,
-The Case
-HDD
-Power Supply

Please help me with my upgrade by suggesting a good combo of CPU and GPU in my 400$ for a decent gaming rig. Any and every attempt to help is greatly appreciated.

Im re-using a Corsair 450W psu.

I can buy a new case so that won't be a problem. But just in case, i think its a normal sized one. Its pretty old. Sorry for being vague, i don't know much about case types.

well the budget is kinda steep for a gaming rig. i don't trust that PSU, as the CX series is made with cheap components, and the unit is already old, so the chances of it failing are increased. can you increase the budget at all?

also, what kind of performance are you expecting from this upgrade? and what resolution will you be playing on?

sorry for all the questions, just trying to assist to the best of my ability.

Yeah i understand that the budget is really low. Sadly, i can't increase it at all. T_T i'll have to work with that.
Im not expecting high end gaming performance like running Battlefield 4 or Crysis series or Middle Earth SOM on Ultra 1080p. Im just expecting some decent gaming like running Metal Gear Rising on 720p (or 1080p if possible) or some good online multiplayer games on decent graphics like Tom clancy's ghost recon future soldier, or fifa 15.

and im really greatful to you for taking time to go into such detail for helping me out. :)

something like this would probably be the best way to spend $400

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4170 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($116.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($75.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($42.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($169.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $405.95

again, replace the power supply as soon as you are able to. the 270X will deliver solid performance for 1080p medium. and the i3 isn't the best gaming cpu available (if you could increase your budget i would recommend an i5), but will keep the 270X running strong.

WOAH..! Didn't expect that kind of rig in 400$.. O_O
and since that is a LGA 1150 socket im assuming i can upgrade it to an i7..? and yeah i'll upgrade my PSU as soon as i can. Thanks a lot. You've really helped me. :) ^_^

I would give you the best solution but this isn't a Question thread. Its a discussion. T_T really sorry.

you could upgrade to an i7, but you wouldn't be able to fully overclock an unlocked CPU. just so you know. most H97 boards do offer limited overclocking, but it's only on the CPU multiplier and not the input voltage.
