Which monitor is preferable for PC gaming?

I'm trying to decide between two monitors that are available at my local store:

ACER S271HL DBID

Asus VX248H

One is slightly larger (27') but it sacrifices response time (6ms). Would I be sacrificing a lot if I got a bigger monitor with 6ms?

I'm also open to other suggestions but would prefer something I can grab locally.

Solution
Don't worry about it. Only the most hardcore gamer would notice the difference. It is delay free and perfectly capable for gaming. Check a review of it at pcmonitors.com.

There is also the similar 27" Dell S2715H.

I've never used an Acer monitor, but I did use my Asus VN247 for gaming up until a few weeks ago when I upgraded to a 2k gaming monitor, and it worked really well. I think the faster response time would serve you better than the extra 3" of viewing space since they both display at 1080p.

If you can afford it, however, you may want to look at monitors with higher refresh rates than 60Hz. I just bought a BenQ gaming monitor that does 1440p at 144Hz, and it's amazing how much of a difference it makes. Even if you stay with a 1080p resolution, the higher refresh would still be a better investment for you. You'll pay a bit more for one, but I think you'll enjoy the improvement. Here's a link to some examples:

I guess I should add that I currently have a single GTX 970 if that makes a difference to whether I will benefit from 144hz.

BenQ monitors are definitely out of my price range. The Asus VG248QE (from the link you provided) seems reasonable though.

The 970 is a solid chipset, and will definitely benefit from the higher refresh rate. I was very happy using my Asus monitor for gaming, so I'm sure that one will work very well for you. I only upgraded to the BenQ for the higher refresh rate, and the 2k resolution, not because the Asus had any issues. I'd used it with great success for 2-3 years for everything from shooters to MMOs.

The Asus uses PWM dimming and has mediocre color presets and contrast. This the best cheap 144Hz TN monitor: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/lg-monitor-24gm77

Err I meant to reply, not choose best answer (still deciding). The dell monitor seems nice, but the other poster has me convinced that I should go for 144hz monitor.

If gaming is your main purpose and you have the budget, then by all means go for it, you have the gpu needed to take advantage of it. As I said above though, the cheaper good 144Hz monitor is LG 24GM77 at ~300$. The cheaper than this 144Hz monitors are not worth it, they have low image quality and use PWM dimming.
If you also want G-Sync, then go for the AOC G2460PG. It is more expensive though.

I also found this BenQ monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014345.

Can't find anything about refresh rate and I'm unsure how it compares to the Asus one I selected earlier:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=PPSSHGGRXVLVAN-_-24-236-313-_-Product

The BenQ is a typical 60Hz TN monitor with some useless BenQ gimmicks. It is not worth looking at.
The Asus you mentioned at least has 144Hz refresh rate. Still, its image quality is equivalent to 5-6 years old TN monitors, it is vastly inferior to the LG 24GM77.
