So, I just installed my new Crucial BX100 SSD, and installed Windows 7 onto it, along with my motherboard drivers, GPU drivers, Firefox and Avast. I also completed the Windows registration.

However, when I proceeded to try and check for updates, it didn't work, it would simply say Windows is checking for updates and go no further, until it would shut down my PC without warning, meaning I have to manually restart it.

How can I resolve this, as I would like to get it to update to Windows 10.

It looks like that you have a problem with Windows Update...

You could try to use the third party tool wuinstall. It's a small command line tool which automatically searches, downloads and installs all updates. I had problems setting up Windows 7 on my PC too and a friend recommended me to use this tool. Just download the free trial, open cmd as administrator and type in <location>wuinstall /install. For more options look up their page.

Hope it works for you too
