"Airport security is not something that you should be taking lightly. Just ask the owner of this Gigabyte G1 Assassin 2 motherboard, who had his two NVIDIA GeForce GTX590 GPUs – configured in SLI no less – brutally ripped out from its PCIe slots because the airport’s X-Ray scanner detected what supposedly looked like a pistol tucked away somewhere on the mainboard itself.

Judging from the mangled PCIe slots in the image above, one could easily tell that the New Zealand customs officers weren’t exactly being cautious with the removal of the GPUs that were once residing in them.

Instead of just unfastening the PCIe locks and safely unmounting the GPUs, the officers – who were probably already fidgety and anxious knowing that there’s a ‘firearm’ concealed somewhere on the motherboard – decided to just yank both the GPUs out instead.

Did the officers manage to find a firearm? Nope, only a harmless heatsink that most certainly looked like one. Oops.

If there was one lesson that we can all learn from this incident, is that you should definitely avoid bringing anything that resembles a weapon (no matter how trivial it is) through your local airport security.

How would you know for sure whether a particular object could potentially pass off as a weapon? Simple. As soon as you start having doubts about its innocent appearance, it would be best to not bring it along."

I still have no idea what happen on the PCI-E slots....
