My wife's PC is borked, and Windows Update doesn't work. (Have faith when I tell you that everything has been tried. It's the 80073712 error)

So... how can I reserve Win 10 on her system, if Windows Update doesn't work?

Bit of a Chicken and Egg problem.

The beauty of installing Win 10 "in place" is that I (theoretically) won't have to re-install everything else.

I accept that that may be the final solution to this, but... I'm really hoping to get a less... nuclear...option.

Possibly, just maybe not on the 29th right away.
They may only offer to those who actually buy windows 10.
I bought windows 8.1 pro as a digital only edition, and I can download the ISO as many times as I want from MSs website.

Well, for the Win 10 Upgrade, you have to have a fully updated Win 7 or 8.1.

Possibly roll back to an earlier Restore point?
