Does 144hz and G-Sync make a difference if I'm not playing games like CSGO?

I'm planning on getting the Acer XB240H 1080p 144hz G-Sync Monitor because I'm very interested in technology. Personally I prefer the smoothness over the resolution, but I don't have the money to get 1440p 144hz.

I play a lot of differnent games like GTA V, Rocket League, H1Z1, and so on. I see a lot of people saying 144hz is only worth it for competitve FPS games like CSGO, but I like to play games for fun. Will I still get an enjoyable experience out of G-Sync and 144hz if I am playing these games?

Specs:
CPU: i7 4770 (3.4 GHz)
GPU: MSI Gaming 4G GTX 970
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1333MHz
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Thanks in advance!

well, 144 is smooth regardless of what you do. as long as your rig can push >100fps, you should be able to notice the difference. but, for example, if you push ultra on a very demanding game and can barely hit 60fps, then the high refresh rate will not be of much use
