Why do I have DirectX 11.1 instead of 12?

I recently installed windows 10 from windows 7 on my laptop. However, I see that after running dxdiag I have DirectX 11.1 instead of 12. I thought Windows 10 is supposed to come with DirectX 12? What is wrong here?

What is the GPU of your laptop? And have you updated your GPU drivers?

You need to have a "DirectX 12" ready GPU for this to occur...
