I couldn't find my original build post to ask there sorry. Anyways with some help on here I think I narrowed my build down to this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DRdkZL

(I switched up the case from Corsair 400r to NZXT Phantom 410 because I like the look better.)

1. I have read you can fit the GTX 970 in NZXT Phantom 410's case by removing a hard drive bay. If I do this will the case still hold the 256 gb SSD and 1TB HDD I have selected?
2. Is it better/easier for me to purchase a Windows OS and download it to a USB rather than buying the CD to run it?

Thanks again!

depends on the exact make and model. Gigabyte has the longest while evga has the shortest. with evga , you wont need to remove any hard drive bay. Else the exact dimensions are given on each products site and on the case site about how long gfx it can accomodate.
The strix is also a small card and will fit without removing the bays. Only Gigabyte has the 310 mm model which will cause issues.
