the suggested equalizer is really for more advanced users. It does not have presets or a graphic display with bars.
A simple solution that I discovered is to download and install the realtek driver. That restores the missing options.

This one works "Graphic Equalizer Studio", you should download the trial which is fully functional for 5 minutes at a time. I own this program and have had plenty of time to evaluate it. I bought it in September 2015, it is now January 2016.

I must warn you, although it appear this is "the best" equalizer program available for Windows 8 and 10 it has big bugs, the interface is highly outdated, the graphics are early 2000, some of the controls just simply don't work. The things that DO work are the equalizer and sound enhancer, the bars work pretty good, though not completely. The developer is somewhat unhelpful, he kept giving me solutions that didn't seem to help much. At the end when I found my own way to solve my issues and let him know; he responded in an email: "Okay fine..."

Never "thank you for your interest in our products" or anything like that. I do believe I spoke to the developer. The emails were all signed:

The program is barely compatible with Windows 10.

The pros I can give you, the equalizer is amazing and that feature alone should be worth at least half of the cost of the program. It is the only reason why I bought it, and decided it would pay for itself in the long run, which is true. But like I said, the program needs lots of improvements and the customer support is quite awful.

There is another program I just learned from today, it's called "Breakaway Audio Enhancer" and this is it: http://www.claessonedwards.com/index.php

I am going to try it myself and see how good it is, and if it works I am putting my money in it, rather than updating the Graphic Equalizer Studio 2015 to a "2016" version.

I wish you luck, let me know if this helps as people in the web are virtually unhelpful with things like this!!

PS! "Breakaway Audio Enhancer" is really good and I think I know where my money is going the next time I buy an audio enhancer! I am a person of very few words when it comes to getting my money's worth, this equalizer has awesome graphics AND can be appended to play alongside your player (in my case it is Spotify). I think the ease of working with the interface makes it worth the cost. Only $30.

I think this program might be a great solution for what you are looking for.

http://www.equalizerpro.com/

EqualizerPro is a graphic equalizer that works with Windows 7, 8, and 10. It’s easy-to-use and has lots of features, like a 10 band equalizer, over 20 presets and you can also easily create custom presets. It’s not free but at $14.95 it’s super affordable and since it works with all your music programs you won’t need any other equalizer.
Many programs have built in sound equalizers that you can use but that means that you have to individually adjust each one. EqualizerPro works on any sound that comes out of your PC. One program for all your audio needs - so convenient!

I notice this equalizer, as with a few others I've tried, render the enhancements "invisible" again, which reactivates the Loudness Equalization (this is always on by default), so ... you get a good equalizer, you get the heavy compression back. Bad for people who prefer natural dynamics or audio engineers.

Thank you very much for recommending
the Equalizer APO. It is an excellent
equalizer which can be used to equalize
the microphone input to a laptop.
