Hi, I am currently needing to pick a monitor to go with my first build, but I am having trouble picking one. 144Hz doesn't appear to make a difference unless you want to play over 60 fps (please correct me if i am wrong), but it does take away some of the color, and I don't really care about anything more than 60 Fps, so 60Hz seems appropriate. 1080p is the resolution I want aswell. Can anyone recommend to me a good monitor?

I'd recommend this: http://tinyurl.com/pr3jqn6. With 80,000,000:1 contrast ratio the clarity of this screen is staggering and has an ultra fast 1ms response time. After a $20.00 rebate it can be had for $159.99. For $20.00 more you might also consider its 'big brother' (http://tinyurl.com/qbsykdu). The specs for the two are identical.

Hello,

OP specifically said that he was not interested in monitors that use TN panels. Both of the suggested monitors here, are using TN-LCD's. What OP needs is an IPS panel.

Regarding the response time spec, don't be fooled by the advertised numbers. They mean absolutely nothing. The electronics inside are far more important. Meaning a 1 ms monitor can be slower than a 5 ms, and so on. And to be clear, the pixel response time causing an artifact known as ghosting, has not been around for years. Unless it's some new one but crap quality. Today monitors are fast enough, regardless what LCD type it's using. Input lag is also something a lot of people confuse with pixel response time, so keep that in mind. I recommend reading a reliable guide.

If you don't want to get involved with what all the different monitor specs mean, then I recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Series-PB238Q-23-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00906GBBC
