I updated windows 7 to windows 10 and since then I cant play any game that uses d3d9. I tested just about every game I have and i get the same error. Any d3d other than d3d9 works perfectly. I tested all my ram sticks, together and separately, and tried to check for corrupt files with cmd. After contacting Microsoft and working with tech support for an hour where all they did was try to change compatibility mode, they said you don't know whats wrong and left me to it. I tried a clean boot too. I also cant seem to find anyone else on windows 10 with this problem but i have seen it in windows 7 and 8/8.1.

OK so I found a fix, for me at least. The lab tech never got to me so I found this by myself.

What I did was go to windows update>advanced options>view update history and find "cumulative update for windows 10 for 64x-based systems(KB3081424)." This happens to also have a d3d9.dll in the update.

See here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3081424

Now what I did was click Uninstall updates at the top and find the update under the Microsoft tab with the (KB3081424) code with it and uninstall, restart and now all d3d9 games work for me now.
