I'm looking to buy either a MX279H or a MX27AQ and I'm wondering if it will make that much of a difference between 1080p and 1440p.

I've been told at 27 inch 1080p start to be grainy but I'm scepticle, if possible could any1 with a 27 inch monitor do the test between the two and take a screenshot or something and show me the results of both?

To be honest, if you have never experienced 1440p, you will probably think that the 1080p monitor is great even at 27" . I would not go over 24" at 1080p because as you increase size, you get less pixels per inch. Sometimes I even feel like my 24" 1080p monitor is slightly too pixely.

You will probably be happy either way. But no doubt about it, the 1440p monitor would deliver a much crisper image quality.

At 27" you should probably want to go 1440p.

The pixels will be much more pronounced on the 1080p on a monitor that size. If you are sitting further back from your screen, it won't be a huge deal but if it is right in front of you it will definitely be noticeable.

@ Knicks2012 : Power isn't the issue, distance is!

From where my computer is sitting right now and where I would put my second screen ( want it to be hooked up to my tv and a monitor ) I would need a 25FT cable. Taking into account that my GPU has mini displayports as output, there is no way to get the image that far at 1440p ... I checked online and either I buy a mini DP to HDMI 4k compatible that is a maximum of 15FT long or I buy a mini DP to HDMI converter and use a 25FT HDMI cable, but there's no converter that goes higher then 1080p.

So what I'm trying to know with this thread is if 1440p is that much of a difference that I should reorganise my room to allow a 15ft cable to be enough, or do I settle for the 1080p version?

@ToxicFantom : I will be sitting at around 1 - 3 feet away.

+1 Whatever direction you go will be fine but analyze your budget and determine whether you can afford 1440p and the hardware to push the pixels. If you go 1080p don't go above a 24" monitor. 1080p doesn't look good above that size monitor.
