Cant play old games on windows 10?

So i decided to bust out some old games i have for PC on dvd, i tried installing Age of Empires 3 and it says i need to download something called "DirectPlay". So i hit install this feature and it gives me this error code: 0x80071A90. I tried going into control panel and going into programs and turn windows features on or off and selected "DirectPlay" and i get the same error code: 0x80071A90. This game worked for me on Windows 7, can anyone help please?

Windows 10 is very new, older games that worked on windows 7 probably won't work in 10 even with compatibility mode on.

For example, Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour worked well in windows 7 but I could not play it in windows 8 or 8.1.

So i just read your comment, and i thought i would give one last try to get the game to work. Sure enough all i had to do was go on the website and download a patch for it! Thanks anyway though
