Hi guys,

I've been running out of RAM while gaming (and consistently running close to max capacity) so I would like to upgrade my desktop to improve performance. I would also like to be able to alt-tab between programmes (e.g. Teamspeak and my game) more fluently if possible.

My current specs (running Win 7)

  • CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965
    RAM 4GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR3-1333 PC10600 (KVR1333D3N9/4G)
Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M LX V2 (AM3R2)
Graphics 2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (also Asus)
PSU FSP Raider 550 watt (80plus bronze, 450 watt output)
    Hard Drives
465GB Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device (SATA)
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKX-003CA0 ATA Device (SATA)
    The case/cooling is nothing special

I am thinking of upgrading to 8GB (can't see that I would exceed 8GB with my specs, but input welcome here!)

According to ASUS, my MB supports the up to 16GB of the following:
2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1866(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory Dual Channel Memory Architecture

I'm thinking of taking two sticks of this RAM
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-KVR13N9S8-1333MHz-Non-ECC/dp/B008CP5Q7M/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
It's very similar to what I have - I will take two sticks as delivery to me is free if I spend over £20, either I spend the money on delivery or the second stick.

And now, lots of questions!
Is this the best I can do? Is there any advantage to looking at 1600Mhz RAM for me? Or will it even run with my motherboard?
What does the manufacturer mean with O.C (overclock?) in brackets after the 1600Mhz RAM, does it mean I need to make some tweaks to the MB settings for the RAM to run?

Also, curiously crucial memory scanner says 8GB is my maximum RAM - but ASUS product page states 16BG is the maximum capacity. I think that probably I will never need more then 8GB of RAM, but... anyone know why it might be saying this?

Thank you very much for your help and insights.

With your combo 1333 is fine, would be best to gt a set of sticks that way they are guaranteed to work together, with single sticks they might not play - also with the 965 most can carry 1600 DRAM if you want to go a little faster
