I was actually happy with an old 1920x1080 IPS HP monitor that I had but it went out. I really wanted to stick with IPS and after some research chose the BenQ GW2765HT. I thought it might be good to upgrade resolution to 2560x1440.

While I really like the monitor for static images, surfing, and work, with the 1440, I just can't play COD as well as before. Everything just seems jumpy, like not as many frames or something. Maybe the refresh rate is the problem. Games are just not as enjoyable.

My question is, should I send the monitor back and get a better monitor or should I invest in upgrading my video card? I currently have an Nvidia GTX 460 with monitor connected via DDVI.

I don't want to dump money into a video card if the monitor is not going to improve. Should I just go back to faster 1920x1080 IPS?

I tried turning off some extra services, reducing Windows and in-game resolution, and overclocking but I could only get to 75hz overclocking. Nothing I've tried so far has made any improvement

Thanks

Hello, what you've basically done is that you went from a 1920x1080, to a 2560x1440 display:

1920 * 1080 = 2073600 (pixels)
2560 * 1440 = 3686400 (pixels)

------------------------------------

3686400 - 2073600 = 1612800

1612800 / 2073600 = 0.77

0.77 * 100 = 77

------------------------------------

2560x1440 is 77% more demanding than 1920x1080. As you can see, you're telling your GTX 460 to do a lot more than what it's capable of gameplay wise (you want it to be smooth). Your only options are to either lower your in-game resolution, upgrade your graphics card, or buy a new monitor, using 1920x1080 resolution.

If you choose to upgrade your graphics card, please list your computer specs. Don't forget the power supply, so that we...

Thanks Suzuki,

My computer specs are:

Velocity Micro
Intel i5 CPU 2.80GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
700W power supply

One issue with upgrading video cards is space. The GTX 460 is about 9 inches long. I might could go 10 or 11 inches but that would be it.

Thanks again. Any help is much appreciated.
