Windows search says "Something went Wrong"

After doing a fresh install of windows 10 on my system, I have been unable to search for anything through windows search. for a select few things, a result will come up. for example, CMD shows me command prompt and searching notepad shows me notepad. however, even with these, the search will just sit there saying something went wrong until I finish typing the entire word/phrase.

for most other apps/programs/files, nothing will come up at all. Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome all result in the something went wrong error.

I'm using a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD (C drive) along side a 3TB seagate HDD with Windows 10.

What exactly is the "Something" that went wrong and how do i fix this?

Try troubleshooting the indexing system. Type "Indexing Options" in Start, and select "Troubleshoot search and indexing."

Apparently, the search service wasn't on.
btw, i could search for indexing options in start, cause search wasn't working, but i managed to find the troubleshooter in the control panel
also found out my SSD was indexed, so I turned that off (i heard it doesnt help to index SSD's)
