During the Cyber Monday sale, I am planning to purchase a new monitor.

How visually appealing is (1200 p) compared to (1080 p)?

How much of an impact does it have on fps?
One GTX 970 (Example: [Battlefield 4 Ultra settings 1080p 85-100fps] BF4 Ultra 1200p ?__? fps

Also can I have a rough estimate of how future proof a GTX 970 is if I were to use 1200p

((I do not want a 1440p monitor due to my budget and fear of future games bombing me))

Thank you for your time and responses!

Your question could also have been stated as "Which looks better, 16:10 ratio or 16:9 ratio?"

The Greeks answered this forever ago. They called it the golden ratio, also known as phi. Aesthetically, the golden ratio is a perfect 1.62. So, let's convert both ratios to a decimal point number and see which is closest to perfect. 16:10 --> 1.60, 16:9 --> 1.78. The 1200 is the closest.

I use both sizes. Although I prefer 1080 for watching TV, 1200 feels more balanced for most other uses. 1200 is becoming more rare. I'd get it while you can.

Most games I know do not support 1920 x 1200 because it is a 16:10 resolution as opposed to a 1920 x 1080 16:9 resolution.

They will support lower 16:10 resolution such as 1280 x 1024 or 1024 x 760 but 120 x 1200 is a niche resolution since the market started going into the 16:9 for media purposes and not office work. I personally like the 16:10 resolution monitors due to the more vertical space but the price tag for a 16:10 vs a 16:9 monitor of the same exact size is sometimes a few hundred dollars.

The best 1920 x 1200 monitor I ever used was the NEC EA244WMi-BK Black

Of course it came with a $400 price tag but you get what you pay for:
24" 6ms
HDMI / DVI/Display Port / DVI / VGA
IPS Panel
built in speakers {if that's your thing}

Get the 1200 while you can and go with an IPS pannel

Hmm I guess I could have stated that, but I lacked the knowledge before you stated the aspect ratio haha

Would you happen to know if a 1900x1200 monitor could use the 1900x1080 setting if a game does not provide the 1200 setting? Or do aspect ratios strictly use a different set of resolutions?

Thank you again if you respond!
