MSI 870-C45 PCIe x16 slot question

Im running amd radeon HD 6790,it's using PCIe x16 2.1 slot,and i was wondering if i could run some better graphics card which are using PCIe x16 3.0??Im totally new to this stuff and i don't know what these versions of slots(2.1,3.0)mean..

PCIe slots are compatible with any slot. For example: you can use a GPU which has PCIe 3.0 slots in a MoBo which has PCIe 2.0 slots.


Your upgrade will work perfectly fine. Just make sure your case is big enough and you have enough PSU
