Looking at getting a 1600x900 monitor and was wondering, what are the downsides to it? It's a 19.5" monitor so I was curious about it, will there be any noticeable quality issues? Will the image be crisp? I'd prefer a 1600x900 monitor over a 1920x1080 for a higher framerate in games.

For gaming, there will be no issues, since games will display at a native 1600x900 resolution. However, you won't be able to enjoy full 1080p videos, as they will scale down to 900p, furthermore, 720p videos won't be crisp either, as they will scale up. Don't forget that if videos don't matter, save money and get a 900p monitor, especially if its a good IPS panel with high refresh rates.
