Hello all!

I recently acquired an R9 290x card which was a nice upgrade from my previous R9 270x and made me think if I should get a new monitor as well.

I am a mediocre gamer, I play games a lot, but in my free time. I know monitor refresh rates are less noticeable with some games, so I must mention that I mostly play MOBAs, RPGs, action RPGs, MMORPGs and the occasional shooter, but much less frequently.

Here is my system:

CPU - Intel Core i5 4570
Motherboard - Asus B85M-E
RAM - 2x8GB Kingston HyperX Savage DDR 3 1600 MHz
GPU - Asus R9 290X DirectCU II OC
SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
PSU - Seasonic M12 II 80+ Bronze 750W

Current monitor - Acer S232HL, 2 ms response time, 75 hz vertical refresh rate.

If I decide to opt for a new monitor, I think I'd go for something like 24 inches since I sit like 40 centimeters away from the screen. Also I am on a tighter budget so I am looking for a monitor of 250-300 euros tops.

I have been playing games only on 1080p monitors since like 7-8 years, thus I have no personal experience with gaming on higher resolutions.

My questions are:

1. Should I go for a 120-144 hz 1080 p monitor? If yes, which ones do you propose? I've seen some good offerings from Asus and Benq, oh and an Acer Predator.

2. Should I go for a higher resolution monitor? I know this will cost more, so I guess that would mean going for slower refresh rates.

3. Is there even a point in going for higher resolution on a 24-inch monitor?

I should say no, unless your playing FPS, action, competitive online games where timing your shots is critical higher refresh rate wont really make much difference to you. Going to a higher resolution your not only sacrificing the refresh rate but your FPS as well. I would look into ultra wides, they have just about the same pixel density of a 1440p, and much less load on your gpu as a standard 1440p dispalay.

This is the display I use. I have to say it's perfect for my usage which is pretty simaler, except I also do some dev work.

Ok, thank you for the advice, I hadn't thought about ultra wides until now, and it is certainly an option. If anyone has other suggestions, please throw away, I need as much info as possible.
