Hi all,

Hoping someone could help me out here - I've tried looking but I can't figure it out.

I have an Acer Aspire E1-571 with the following specs:

  • Intel i5 3230M @ 2.60GHz (Ivy Bridge)
    8.00GB RAM
    128GB Kingston SSD
    Intel HD Graphics 4000

I am running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

I am considering buying another monitor to put on my desk to use for productivity and some rare photo editing. The monitor was running in 2560x1080 and I wanted to run it off either HDMI or VGA. What I was wondering is would the integrated graphics be able to cope with this monitor? If not is it possible to but an external graphics adapter or card to cope with this?

Thank you,
Edwin.

According to the above thread and video, it comes down to the limitations of the outputs on your laptop. HDMI 1.4 doesn't support 21:9, although it does support 4k@30hz. Outputting to your monitor may be possible with an external gpu, but enclosures can be very expensive. This is why I'd recommend checking out this guide, if you haven't seen it already:
