Graphics card advice pls

Hi, I am a console gamer but am starting to get into some PC gaming, nothing hardcore but I love latest adventure games, and my PC at the moment is

Core i5 2500k
8gb Ram
GTX 550ti

I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card for future proof while I have some £££, so 2 questions as don't know much about graphics cards tbh.

1 - I have a 4k TV, would love to hook up the PC to that but understand it needs a very good graphics card to run on it, whats the cheapest one out there for that that's half decent? (Probably out my budget).

2 - Failing that will stick with a 1080p monitor, whats a decent mid range card for £200 or under to get where I can run latest games at around medium settings if need be as I am being told to upgrade my graphics card from people, I am not a big PC gamer but as I say be nice to future proof myself for a bit just incase. What would you recommend?

FWIW, I have been looking at Radeon R7 260x as seems very reasonably priced at under £100 but half decent too? But is 2gb too less for future proof? Don't mind spending a bit more, would 3gb/4gb be a mininum?
