Hey guys. I recently built a new computer and bought a separate windows 8.1 cd to install on it. Now this version was the Pro version. I upgraded to windows 10 and now the version is Home?

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to go to the pro version. Both my laptop and my other pc went to the pro versions also. Just not this one.

So I tried installing the pro version via the media creation tool and it said it wasn't able to verify the key. (You usually solve this by signing in) but that didn't take care of the problem. So I had to go back to windows 10 home. And it worked fine.

Anyone have any ideas? Do I need to contact Microsoft? Is there a way to upgrade and regain my pro status without reinstalling windows completely?

That applies only to 8.1. 7 and 8 are not acceptable for reasons no-one know can understand.

Folks who had 7 Pro or remained with 8 Pro with Classic Shell were perfectly happy with it and didn't move up (down) to 8.1 and are now being punished by having to pay for 10.
