Hey all, I got a 5 year old Lg24ea53 monitor which is running on 60 hz and has a IPS panel. Now I am looking for a faster monitor with 144 hz rr so I dont have to see any ugly tearing.

I have a evga 970 gtx in my rig and I wanted to know if you can give me some advice on which monitor will fit my needs the best. I play all kind of games, but mostly LoL and shooter. I will use the monitor for work and watching movies, because i dont have a Tv.

I read that monitors with 1440p res and 144 hz rr are runnable with a 970 gtx . Is that true ?

I still dont know if the differents between Tn and Ips panels are very noticable or not. Because the ips panels with 1440p and 144 Hz are quiet a bit more expensiv then the tn panels.
For a 1440p 144 hz ips panel like the Asus MG279Q ( is this monitor still worth without an amd card ) we still have to play allmost 600 euros.

For a 1440p 144 hz Tn panel i looked up the:
Acer Predator XG270HUomidpx 69 cm (27 Zoll)
Benq XL2730Z( 27 Zoll) and they are arround 450 euros and 600 euros.

After I read some posts in the forum many people sad that the G-sync monitor with 1080p (Acer Predator XB270HAbprz 69 cm (27 Zoll)) is very good for gaming.
This tn panel model is about 550 euros with G-sync and 144 hz rr and the Asus MG279Q (1440p 144hz ips) costs 580 euros.

From hear on I need some help. Should I go for a 1440p nice colored Ips panel or a G-sync tn model with 1080p. The Benq XL2730Z is as the higher res over the Acer Predator XB270HAbprz 69 cm (27 Zoll) but is without G-sync.
Is G-sync really that good, I mean it costs about 150 euros so it should be. But is it worth downgrading to 1080p again ?

I will list some Monitor where i didnt know if they are worth buying: Asus VG278HE
Perfect Pixel QNIX QX2710
Acer G257HU
Benq GW2765HT

I'd appreciate any advice and suggestions that you guys have on these monitors or any others that you think would fit my needs. Thanks! -Tom

1440p 144 hz is runnable by GTX 970 but not optimal. You won't be able to play games on max video settings because of higher resolution. GTX 970 is perfect for 1080p or full hd in other words, 1440p is close to 2k and to be gaming on that monitor with max video setting you would be needing GTX 980ti. So I would recommend saving money and going for 1080p monitor. You can buy 1080p with 144hz refresh rate but I don't see much of a difference between 60 and 144hz to be honest, maybe just a little bit but only in FPS games (first person shooter)

i think 1440p is a bit far from 4k.

if you want to go 1440p and 144hz at that, better make sure your rig can push past 100 fps so you can feel the 144 at least.
if it was me, a safer bet is 1080p 144hz with IPS panel, not sure how much this would cost you but that's what i would do.

skip the 1440p, and by the time you upgrade, 4k would be a lot cheaper (hopefully mainstream like the 1080 now) and the single gpu's (hopefully) will be able to handle them easier

I saw some benchmarks with the 980 gtx and that seemed fine. Of course is 970 a downgrade but if I use a dual 970 setting the 1440p could work.

Cons29 I think your right but the problem is I didnt see any 144 hz 1080p monitor with an Ips panel. If you know one pls post it.

Also is the price pretty hight for an 1080p 144hz. For example the Acer Predator XB270HAbprz 69 cm (27 Zoll) is about 550 euros and the higher res Asus MG279Q (1440p 144hz ips) is just 30 euros more. Does anybody have experience with this monitor?
