Hi guys,
recently built a computer and the HDD has started making this weird sort of creaking noise. It doesn't get louder or quieter dependant on what i'm doing it just stays the same. But does it pretty much al the time. Just wondering if it's something bad or not to worry about.

The HDD is a: Western Digital Black 1TB

Here is a link to the video: https://youtu.be/Qf_PA-JkCPE

P.S I have unplugged all my fans and disk drive apart from the water cooler in order to hear better. I have tried a couple of times unplugging the hdd and booting up and the noise goes away so I definitely know it's that.

Thanks!

Hi there bonkers_bailey,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(

The first thing you need to do is to just back up all the data stored on the drive.

Have you tried attaching it with different cables to a different port? If you haven't, you can try that.
Also, you can test it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(both short and extended tests): http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810&lang=en

In case the HDD passes both tests, it should be safe to stored data on it.
On the other hand, even though WD Black has slightly higher acoustics levels, it shouldn't really make creaking noises. This is why, it will not hurt to contact WD's Support either by e-mail or phone and eventually RMA the drive...
