I have a hdd in my toshiba laptop with windows 10. I believe it is a retail copy(not OEM) (i ran the comand slmgr /dlv and in the window that came up it said it the product was in the retail channel). Can I move this hard drive to a self built desktop and boot (legal) windows on there while retaining all my data?

Solution
You can certainly do this. You will need to call Microsoft support to reactivate Windows 10 due to the sudden hardware change, but otherwise you'll be fine. Remember, if your PC case does not have a 2.5", you should buy a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket on which to mount your laptop drive.
