DisplayPort to HDMI vs DisplayPort to DVI

Set Up: Cpu: i7-6700k
Ram: G. Skill 16Gb DDR4-3000
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980
Monitor: BenQ XL2411Z 144hz

I have been looking all over the net and this site for more information, but I have come up dry. My Monitor has HDMI, DVI, and VGA(why? I don't know). I have been trying to figure out if I should get an adapter from my GPU's Displayport to HDMI or to DVI or run straight HDMI, or straight DVI? Or should I change my monitor out for one with Display port? I am completely unconcerned about audio because that will go directly into my MoBo I have tried to look all over for an answer but nothing has come up. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm not sure you can get the full 144Hz over HDMI. Either DL DVI-D or Displayport should work fine.

Would you Recommend doing Displayport to DL DVI-D with an active adapter or should I just save the money and go straight DL DVI-D?
