Hello, I have been experiencing crashes for a few days now when playing games or watching videos and decided to use blue screen viewer to take a look at my dump files. I'm not the most tech savvy but I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the problem?

Here is the .dmp

ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+3d9740 fffff801`7f67b000 fffff801`7fecd000 0x00852000 0x55d5626b 20/08/2015 06:15:23 Microsoft® Windows® Operating System NT Kernel & System 10.0.10240.16463 (th1.150819-1946) Microsoft Corporation C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

My specs are:
AMD- FX 4100 quad core 3.6Ghz
MS-7641 motherboard
MSI Radeon R9 270x
Windows 10 64 bit
single 8Gb RAM

Anything people suggest would be a massive help, thanks

Hi, sorry I posted the wrong GPU, its an msi R9 270x and I have a 600w corsair PSU. I will give the clean driver install a try thanks! :)

If your Corsair PSU is a CX, CS, RM or VS model and is more than 6 months old, there's a good chance it's to blame if the clean driver install doesn't solve it. It could also be the graphics card itself, so if you have another card to try, that might not be the worst idea.

Did a clean install of the drivers and the problem persists sadly, I also just looked at the model of the PSU and it is a CX series. Is there anyway to determine for sure which out of the power supply and graphics card is causing the problem? (Without me changing any parts that is)

Would a re-install of windows 10 be a final solution?

I'd really recommend downloading and running a portable (Run from disk or USB) version of one of the Linux distributions. That will tell you for certain if it's hardware or the operating system. Otherwise I'd suggest doing a clean install of 10, which stands a good chance of being the issue, especially considering the high number of similar threads I've seen resolved by doing so. This is really no different than the mess of issues we saw with the Windows 7 to 8 upgrade process. Clean installs of Windows 8.1, once it was released, pretty much cleared up all those issues as well.

Here's how: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2784691/ditch-problematic-win10-upgrade-replace-clean-install.html

Okay, I actually have a USB with Xubuntu on it, is there anything I should be looking out for or do whilst I'm on Linux?

Just watch some videos and play some games, just see if any of the same issues are happening in Linux that are happening in Windows, when running similar processes. If it does, then it's likely a hardware issue. If it doesn't, then it's probably a Windows or application/driver issue.

Hello, sorry I haven't replied in a while. I have been testing my computer over the past few days with Linux and everything was performing fine. So my guess was that it would be Windows. But, the past 2 days my computer has randomly turned off without warning. Yesterday when I was playing a game and today when I started a antivirus scan. Any ideas? or would it still be a windows issue? Thanks

Linux tends to stress somewhat less than windows, so it could definitely still be a hardware issue and unprovoked shut downs would be indicative of a power supply or motherboard issue, but could also be related to other hardware too. If possible, I'd try to borrow or use another graphics card to see if it still happens, and maybe a different power supply AFTER trying the graphics card, if it still does it with a different card. My bet is power supply.
