I don't think you need to do anything special... It's backwards compatible if I do recall correctly... But if you're unable to, it's either your Operating system that isn't compatible with the game and you can find a guide to help you get it running by clicking here, or you could try and download DirectX by clicking here.

Direct X 7 is going back quite a ways. I would try some compatibility modes as a first step (Right click, properties, run as Windows XP, or 95/98)

After that there is the more complex Application Compatibility Toolkit from Microsoft.

Beyond that virtualization of older OS is pretty much the only way to get older games to run.
