I am looking to build a pc that is capable of running Arma 2 and Arma 3 and the mods of these games and was wondering if this build would work for that. Or if you have any suggestions on a build that would be better for me. Looking to spend under $1000 and wanting to run them with decent settings. I do not need any 4k graphics.

Do I have to switch the CPU to make it compatible with the R9 290 or can I use the first CPU you suggested?

I ended up building this suggested build. Many years later I am seeing that it is only allowing me to use 8gb of ram at a time instead of 16gb. Any idea as to why that would happen?

Which suggested build, the post that was selected as the answer in this thread? If so, that list shows 8GB not 16...

If you do in fact have 16 GB memory plugged/seated in to your motherboard then either:

A) Your motherboard does not support one or two of the memory sticks you have plugged in, and is only showing the 8GB that you DO have plugged in
B) Whatever version of windows (assuming you are running windows) is limited to that much ram (i.e. you're using a 32bit version of windows 7... but I think it is limited to 4GB not the 8GB you claim to be showing, not sure though
