Photoshop and Pinnacle Studio, do I need more Memory Ram?

I am using Photoshop and Pinnacle Studio(pretty intensive video editing software). There are lags while doing tasks within these 2 applications. I wonder is my memory ram needs to be upgraded, or perhaps my CPU?

Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.30ghz
Gigybyte motherboard, forgot the exact model but it was a cheap one from 4 years ago
8GB ram, low quality, not a big named brand, the ones that come on prebuild PCs
Windows 7 64bit
HDD hard drive
Powercolor Radeon HD 7870 Myst 2gb

I am thinking since ram prices have dropped a bit, I upgrade to a good branch high speed ram, maybe stay at 8gb. I do want to get a SDD since it will help load everything faster.

It's most likely the Cpu,you need an i5/i7 to do the work.Monitor your system using the resmon command during your work and see the load on the cpu/ram.

Just opened up resmon, had no idea I had something like this. Thanks! This is useful to check while running other apps.
