Having DirectX 12 now won't impact your stability in DirectX 11 and below applications, as the DX12 API runs independently of those. Right now, there are no commercially available DX12 titles, nor any explicitly DX12-complete hardware. You really will have to wait a while before you see the first GPUs outright branded DirectX 12.
