Hi everyone, as tittle describes I'd like opinions on the best GPU options for 1080p gaming.
After research I realized very quickly that upgrades I would need to run 4K gaming were just not in my budget. I believe many seem to like the GTX 980 TI in SLI as the 4K option?

Here's my PC spec's.

Phenom II(tm) II x6 1090T 3.20 Ghz
Current graphics card: HD 5770 Crossfire
8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
250Gb Samsung Evo Hardrive
1TB Storage Drive

Dual Screen 1080P Monitor and smaller HD Ready monitor (Web surfing during gaming, Twitch/Videos while gaming)

I suppose the most graphical game i currently play is Planetside 2, which I realize is not particularly demanding but I'd like to upgrade to a GPU which has growing room and then hand-me-down my current HD 5770 graphic card to my GF's budget rig.

I need a card that can handle most games at 1080p at Ultra. What is the best option at my price-point?

After research I realized that there are 3 cards which seemed to come up regularly on reviews for 1080.

GTX 960
R9 280X (Now discontinued?)
and
R9 290

So my first question is, what is the best card that should suit my needs and my second question....What are the best varieties of that specific card (MSI, EVGA etc) and where should I go to get the most for my money.

Also interested, is 1440P gaming going to be the new HD Ready that just sticks around for a brief amount of time or is this a real option to consider?
All advise welcome.

For 1080p at around 60fps on ultra you're looking at getting a GTX 970, minimum.
It's also a great price/performance card.
If you're interested in 1440 eventually, a GTX 970 would do fine as well.

Without listing your budget, I can't really help you pick one for your budget though.

Sorry, budget is ultimately about £200 I could stretch just a smidge over but much beyond £200 and it becomes a real push. I could potentially stretch to a GTX 970 however the best I've seen is from scan at £250 or so

£250 is probably the most I could stretch to I think.
I was just looking at this one:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-evga-gtx-970-superclocked-acx-20-pcie-30-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1165mhz-boost-1317mhz-cores-1664-dp-h

I don't know if that's a good model but seems decent?

I hear a lot of people also like the R9 390 too?

his cpu will not allow him to reach 60 fps though, most of the time he will be at the 30 - 40ish fps range without overclock.

I used to have a 1055t @ 3.8 ghz

it bottlenecked a 7950.

farcry 3 ran like shit, so i upgraded to an i5. With the same 7950 the difference was not even close. Utter smootheness.
