when i start playing rocket league it runs at a smooth 60 fps. Then around 30 minutes of gameplay the fps drops to around 40 and audio stutters. I monitered the gpu and cpu temperatures and both are running normal. also after exiting the game after the drops in fps the processors speed remains high and wont drop until i reboot the pc.
My hardware is:
asus maximus viii hero motherboard
i7-6700k
Corsair vengance ddr4 2666mhz ram 16gb (2 x 8)
msi gtx 970 gpu
os windows 10
any help is appreciated.
thank you

Verify you have motherboard bios version 0902 installed.

Install all these drivers:

ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 filter driver: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/usb30/Asmedia_USB3-31_Win7-81_V116240_Win10_V116261.zip

Those are all the latest drivers for your board as currently outlined on the Hero VIII product page and may be newer than versions on your computer. I'd also do a clean install of the GPU card drivers as follows:

Thanks again for your help. I just updated the bios and the drivers and although it didnt fix the issues with the game it fixed other issues I was having. I'm starting to think that it is just the game itself causing the problems. Thanks again

That's totally possible. GTA V and Rocket league both seem to have a lot of users reporting similar issues. You might try doing the clean install of the GPU card drivers again, but use driver version 355.60 instead. That has worked for some folks.

Also, if you're working with an upgraded operating system, you should seriously consider doing a clean install, as that has resolved almost all problems for the majority of members.

Im going to try the clean install of the gpu tomorrow and as far as windows 10, my operating system is not upgraded to windows 10. I recently built the computer with windows 10 so it's had Windows 10 from the start. Once again thanks for your help. I will keep you updated

So I removed all the drivers and ran DDU and used version 355.60 and the game seemed to be running fine for longer but then unfortunately the fps dropped again also the cpu frequency remains high whenevr this happens even after iI close the game until I restart the computer

My cpu is actually overclocked through the motherboards software that was bundled (ai suite 3). I did read recently that that program sometimes hives umstable overclocks. I didnt manually overclock the cpu because i am fairly new to all this. I will definately reset the cmos today when i get the chance and uninstall ai suite 3. Once again thanks for the advice you have bewn a huge help.

AI suite is known to cause issues in Windows 10. If you want to overclock, you should always configure a manual overclock anyhow. The automatic overclocking utilities, ALL of them, suck. They do terrible things with the voltage and CPU profile. They should be avoided.

Would you happen to know if there is a way of disabelling ai suite without uninstalling it

Great. As soon as I get the chance I will use the uninstaller in the link and the reset my cmos. I will manually overclock it at a later time, first I will see if the game works with everything set to default

I got one more question. If I just format everything and reinstall windows would that get rid of the changes made by ai suite? Thanks

Yes, it would get rid of, well, everything. That's the point. Heh. Make sure you reset the bios settings just before you do the clean install though. Then go into the bios and make sure that UEFI and AHCI are enabled and reset any custom settings you had configured previously. Then install.

Sounds good. If uninstalling ai suite and clearing the cmos dont work I will probably do that tomorrow

Yup. It turned out ai suite was the problem. I uninstalled it and reset the cmos and I didn't have any fps drops all though every now and then the game is crashing now. So I will probably just re install windows and hopefully that takes care of the crashing. Thank you so much for your time you fixed the issue

Did you do the clean GPU card driver install again AFTER removing the AI Suite? If not, I'd try that before going through the clean install unless you haven't done a clean install of the OS, in which case, that's a good idea even if you're NOT currently having problems. Anytime you move to a new OS, or even just when the current installation has been on there a while, a clean install that includes getting rid of ALL the partitions or at least the OS and boot partition, you should do that. Good luck Gabe and hope it's smoother sailing from here on out.

Hey everyone, I'm having the same problem, and I just found out what caused it. The problem is that Rocket league only needs calculations sometimes, so the system doesn't see it as a CPU heavy task, and drops the clock speed. But there are times, like kicking the ball, when there would be many calculations, but at that time the cpu is at a low clock speed, and by the time system could handle it, the cpu is running at a 100% for a few seconds. I'm not sure that this causes the problem for everyone, but it causes it for me, so is anyone can, try overclocking the cpu to its turbo boost speeds, to have a fix clock
