My XPS 410 is still cranking with Windows 8.1. It was all working fine. Then the power supply went out. I replaced it with a used spare that I had (350w) and it continued working fine, but that PSU didn't fit in the case. So, I got an insignia 400w PSU, put it in. I got a sort of a screechy kind out sound from the speakers when it first booted and then no sound at all since then. I've re-installed sound drivers with no luck.

Been through playback devices, enabling, disabling and nothing. Just don't know how changing the PSU could have screwed that up.

Connecters plugged in were:
The main mobo connector with the additional 4-prong plug on the side
The 4 prong 12v plug on the mobo
PCIEx power plug going to the nvidea card
And power to 2 HDDs, 2 CD/DVD burners

Any ideas sure would be appreciated! Thanks

Yep. And when it booted, it made another longer screeching noise from the speakers. I don't think anything is fried though. But didn't sound good.

Device manager has these sound devices:

Sound, video and game controllers
Angel II MPEG device
Angel II MPEG device
Logitech Mic
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC (for 64-bit win)
Unimodem Half-Duples Audio Device

System Devices
High Definition Audio controller
System Speaker

Thanks for responding!!
