certain games cause my internet to slow down by a lot

Certain games cause my internet to slow down, even if im just at the main menu. So far its happened with Space Engineers and battlefront 3 beta. The games arent just using up all my bandwidth, i've checked the resource monitor and when the games are open, everything slows down by a LOT.
