How to activate windows 10 with the windows 7 product key?

I was stupid enough to clean install windows 10 to my second laptop without upgrading first and now I'm stuck with an not activated windows 10, however, there is the windows 7 product key at the bottom of my laptop. Can I use that product key to activate windows 10 now?

No, you can't.
You have to go back to Win 7 and then Upgrade to 10.

probably not.... windows ten when it upgrades uses an algorithm to convert the old product key into a new one. you may be able to call Microsoft and have them do it for you, but I am unsure if they will do it. if it is a clean install and hasn't been used much reformat with windows 7 and simply do the upgrade (you can still do a clean install as an option too in the upgrade) I would try calling Microsoft first, as a few minutes with them may save hours of hassle.
