Is 4k on a 17" laptop screen good for 720p and 1080p TV shows and movies?

I'm about to get a laptop and I'm not sure if I should get a 4k or 1080p screen. Video quality is important to me, and I'm not sure how well 720p and 1080p will upscale to 4k. Can anybody help point me in the right direction?

4K display is wasted on a 17 inch screen. The screen size is so small you can't see that much resolution. 4K doesn't start to show significant improvement until 40 inches or more.
No it doesn't upscale perfectly. It's guessing. Anything but native resolution on an LCD is going to add a blur to the whole image, it will not 1:4 like many people seem to believe. However, with that said. It will only be really noticeable if you take a still frame and use a magnifying glass - retina density still apply regardless if it's scaling or not.
