What considerations do I need to take into account when deciding on a new motherboard?

So my current PC is an HP Pavilion P6655d http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02539291#AbT0 and the motherboard that comes with that is this http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02014355 , a micro-ATX motherboard.

So does this pretty much guarantee I can only fit micro-ATX and smaller motherboards into my case? i'm looking to upgrade my motherboard because my current motherboard has the LGA1156 socket which limits my ability to upgrade my processor. I'm currently looking to upgrade from an i3-550 to an i3-4170, which means I need a motherboard with the LGA1150 socket.

Is there anything else I need to take into consideration like my power supply?

Should I go with a micro-ATX motherboard or could I go with a smaller motherboard and not really lose much? Cost is an important consideration for me so if going smaller does save me money then it's something I will consider. I'm not really looking to push it too much, I just need one graphics card and 4 or 8 GB of RAM

The mATX board should work, the PSU would depend on the video card, You could have problems hooking up the front I/0 on the case.
You will have to buy a new operating system the HP disc will not work when you replace the MB.
