DIY gaming rig? Under $500 not including graphics card...

Looking to buy a low cost gaming rig sans graphics card. The graphics card will follow in the near future, but would like initial purchase to be under $500.

How big a difference would there be between these and would they be a decent starting point for a gaming rig? Graphics card would follow shortly after purchase and I'd probably spend $200-300 there...

Ok, better worded... As compared to the cheaper rig i liked... What discrepancy am I likely to see performance wise? I know the processor in your build is better with multi-threading by a wide margin, but otherwise they are close right?
