HDMI Audio Stopped Working Overnight

Hi all,

I have my computer plugged into my television via a 10m HDMI. Last night I played Mad Max, eventually quit the game, quit Steam and shut down.

This morning I started up and now there is no audio going through the HDMI. Video works perfectly fine. If I change my default device to my speakers then audio works. As you can see here, audio is being sent to the TV, it's just not playing anything:

Here's a list of the troubleshooting I've done:

- I have tested the TV's speakers independently and confirmed they work fine.
- I moved my computer next to the TV and tried a different (tested) HDMI cord, still no sound.
- I plugged the HDMI cord into a different TV, still no sound.
- Reinstalled my motherboard's audio drivers.

From what I can tell, there were no Windows updates overnight, so I'm just not sure how this stopped working overnight?

EDIT:

Sorry, forgot to post my specs:

Windows 10
i7 4770
Asrock Z87 Extreme6 motherboard
2 x GTX 780s (the HDMI audio runs out of one of these, no updates overnight)
32gb RAM

Any and all help is really appreciated!

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in resolving that issue.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall NVIDIA graphics driver
- Open Programs and Features and uninstall anything related to NVIDIA graphics.
- Download and install the latest driver from NVIDIA.
- Here's the link: nvidia.com/download/index.aspx
- Reboot your PC after the installation.
- Once restarted set HDMI Output as your default playback device again.

Thanks, this worked perfectly! The strange thing was that if I moved all my displays to the second card, audio worked fine. So I'd assumed it couldn't be the drivers because the second card was using the same drivers! Thanks again!
